Avi J. Bernstein, MD

Dr. Bernstein has been a practicing spinal surgeon at Lutheran General Hospital in Chicago for 35 years. He earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Michigan and his medical degree from the University of Chicago, Pritzker School of Medicine, followed by a five-year residency in Orthopedic Surgery at UCLA Medical Center. He completed a Fellowship in Spinal Reconstructive Surgery, specializing in cervical and lumbar spine conditions in New York.

His career at Lutheran General Hospital included more than 30 years of spine trauma call, a decade as Chairman of Orthopedic Surgery, and many thousands of spinal operations from the occiput to the sacrum. He has extensive experience serving as a medical expert in workers’ compensation and personal injury cases, and served on the Illinois Advisory Board to the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Commission.
