A fellowship-trained orthopedic spine surgeon, Dr. Steven Fineberg is the newest surgeon to join The Spine Center team. An accomplished physician and researcher, he brings a depth of both practical and academic knowledge to the practice.
Dr. Fineberg studied at the Sackler School of Medicine, a medical school associated with Tel Aviv University that provides training for American medical professionals. He went on to an internship at the University of Colorado, followed by his residency at New York Medical College. Dr. Fineberg then completed a fellowship at Chicago’s Rush University Medical Center, which U.S. News & World Report has praised for its excellence in multiple fields of specialty and which the 2019 Vizient Quality and Accountability Study said provided the best patient care out of all major academic medical centers.
During his time at Rush University Medical Center, Dr. Fineberg trained with multiple world-renowned surgeons who used the latest research and most advanced technology to identify spinal defects, diseases, and congenital deformations. These doctors provided instruction on traditional procedures, but they also focused on minimally invasive techniques. Since then, Dr. Fineberg has specialized in minimally invasive surgeries to correct spinal problems.
That emphasis shows in Dr. Fineberg’s own research. In addition to making more than 150 presentations at various medical conferences, he has contributed to dozens of academic papers and professional publications. His emphasis has remained on maximizing patient outcomes so that they can return to full and maximally mobile health as soon as possible. For example, in 2013, he contributed to a study about the use of bone morphogenic protein (BMP) in lumbar fusions. That study discovered BMP was associated with shorter hospital stays and lower rates of infection. Additionally, Dr. Fineberg called for further investigation to determine whether or not the application of BMP provided definitive protection against infection.
Dr. Fineberg speaks multiple languages, one of which is Hebrew. Additionally, he is associated with multiple hospitals in Illinois area. These include Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge and Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. Dr. Fineberg has extensive experience conducting multiple spinal procedures, including lumbar fusions and anterior lumbar fusions. He is currently accepting new patients at The Spine Center and would love to help with any of your spine, or back-related needs.
Dr. Fineberg will also be accepting patients Wednesday evenings 2:00 pm – 7:00 pm and on the first Saturday of each month starting Monday, February 3rd, 2020.
